*******************************
It was the first meeting of our teaching practise. As we divided our duties, Ummu is the teacher at this moment while Naya and Reni are the assistants. In this occasion, student will be learning the language focus of “What time is it? It is ……. o’clock” At the end of the meeting, students are expected to be able to ask and tell time in English.
Our worries on the first meeting is that “what if the students found the topic of the lesson and the activities to be not interesting?” The meeting started with the introduction of ourselves. Students seems to be interested in us and we did not want to lose this opportunity. We opened the lesson with a warming up from Reni. She performed “Tepuk Semangat” in front of the class and followed by the students. Then according to lesson plan, Ummu, as the center teacher, built students’ background by asking students’ ability in telling time in Bahasa Indonesia, they have the ability luckily. When it changes to telling time in English, some of them did not mastered it yet. However, they answered and joined the instruction well. Of course, some of them are already mastered the material would be taught.
After the background knowledge with Bahasa Indonesia, the learning continued with Ummu asking each students “What time is it?” using big-clock cards. They did not seem to lose their interest. Their interest became stronger when Ummu stated that the students will be having fun with song and games. This is exactly as what we expected the students to be.
The learning with song started. Ummu played the song of “what time is it?” from YouTube and asked the students to pay attention to her as she mimicking the song. She played it twice, singing and mimicking it while walking around the classroom to make sure that every students paid the attention to her.
In help of Naya and Reni, students are given four small-clock cards to be used for the activities later. Unfortunately, we couldn’t use the small-clock cards since the activities seemed to be boring to be played. We also remembered that too many activities or game could be a bad thing too. So, we decided to continue to the next learning steps which is “Wolf games”. In this game, students are expected to be able to pronounce and use “what time is it?” correctly in conversation. The students was divided into two large groups and we asked for the wolf volunteered, many of them putted their hands up but we needed two so we chose one person from each group. One group played first. It is all ran well. Some students needed to be paid attention more and my assistants are there to help me.

In the last minutes of the teaching- learning time, Naya and Reni helped a lot in reviewing students’ understanding of the materials that have been taught. We approached each students to practice in asking and telling time with them. We asked the students to prepare a little pieces of letter with their name on it to make us easier in recognizing their name. We sang the “what time is it?” song twice and ended the session with a pray.
